About Jezzie

Sometimes starting therapy brings up a degree of apprehension, and other times we're just sure that it's the thing to do right now. Either way, you may want to know what to expect as you explore and initiate this process.

The first step is to call me at (530) 579-2701, or email me at jezzie@stepsideways.net. You will most likely need to leave a message with your name, phone number, and the best times to reach you. I make it a point to return initial inquiries within 24 hours whenever it is possible.

During our first phone conversation, I will ask you very briefly what's led you to consider therapy at this time. This is so that we can make sure that I'm the right therapist for you... if for some reason we find that I'm not the right person to assist you with your issue, I will try to help you find someone who can. I will also answer any initial questions that you might have. If it seems like the right time to move forward, we will discuss the fee and schedule an initial appointment.

At your first appointment, we will begin by going over some important information about confidentiality and both of our rights and responsibilities as client and therapist. It is important that we both agree at the onset about how therapy should work; this helps us to get to know each other, to be as productive as possible, and to immediately develop mutual respect. This is also an opportunity for you to make sure that I'm the right therapist for you! As a client, you are entitled to understand my qualifications and my approach to therapy. And of course, we will take some time to discuss what brings you to therapy and to identify some initial goals for our time together.

Here's an article from The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists with some great advice on Finding The Right Therapist For You.
